Our Story~

Udbhav was born from a simple yet profound vision: to uplift rural communities while preserving their cultural identity. Jhabua is home to incredible craftsmanship passed down through generations, yet many artisans struggle to find opportunities to showcase their skills and earn a fair living. We recognized this gap and set out to create a platform where their artistry could thrive and reach appreciative customers worldwide.

OUR TEAM~

Ramesh Parmar

Ramesh Parmar, 57, from the tribal area of Jhabua, started a handicraft business in 1993 after receiving training in the art from T.C.P.C., alongside his wife Shanta Bai Parmar. Over the past 27 years, their business has provided a livelihood for the family, with their children—Viplav, Asha, Lavnesh, and Anita—following in their footsteps. All family members hold Artisan cards issued by the Ministry of Textiles and are registered with the Handicraft Department of Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The Parmar family has participated in numerous exhibitions, from district to national level, showcasing their work and earning recognition at events such as the Malwa Van Mela, National Handicraft Fair, and Sant Ravidas Fair. Their handicrafts have been admired at local fairs like Bhagoriya, organized by the Jila Panchayat. Additionally, they run the Mahakaleshwar Self-Help Group, which supports 20 women in earning a livelihood through handicrafts. Through their work, the Parmar family has brought pride and recognition to Jhabua District. .

Shri Subhas Gidwani

Shri Subhas Gidwani aged 51 years owns the famous 'Gudiya-ghar' named Shakti Emporium situated in Dutt colony of Jhabua. Shri. Udhav Gidwani, father of Shri Subhash Gidwani used to train hundreds of people in T. C. P. C. For 40 years he was involved with the training of people for this art of Gudiya-making. Mr. Subhash Gidwani has carried this art of his father forward and for the past 25 years he has been training and employing the people. He uses degradable materials like cloth, cotton, wire for making the tribal dolls the 'Bhil and Bhilni'. Other than Subhash ji his sons and his sisters are also skilled in this art. Mr. Subhash Gidwani has been bestowed with the awards at state and national level as well. Mr. Subhash Gidwani through his art, has kept the tribal culture alive today in the high paced changing era. .

Shri Raju Basod

Shri Raju Basod of 40 years dwells in Jhabua. He and his nephew Shri Virendra Basod are skilled in making craft items of Bamboo like Tokri, Supda, Topla, Teer-kaman and other decorative pieces. Mr. Raju Basod became an adept artisan and craftsperson by learning the minutes of the art from his father, and is learning his livelihood for past 25 years through his art. Besides this there is an interesting and attractive fact that he has adopted the Barter-system in his business. He instead of selling his goods ( craft items) exchanges his goods with that of grains from villagers which actually seems facilitative to the villagers.Family members of Raju Basod that includes his wife and three daughters are all well adept in this skill.Raju Basod has managed to keep the tribal culture of India alive through his art of making bamboo craft items.
